About the work

I make photographs of the entire main streets of small prairie towns. These photographs are composed of up to one hundred and fifty sequential images digitally conjoined into seamless panoramas-like images. Each structure on the street is photographed to appear straight on to the viewer creating an unusual perspective with multiple vanishing points. Each piece is an accurate representation of the architecture and scale of the street. The finished prints are large allowing the viewer to immerse one's self in the tiniest details.

These unique images provide an original way of seeing our architectural heritage in the context of geography and weather but their apparent simplicity belies the technology used to produce them.

My work has been mostly along the 100th meridian primarily in Alberta and Saskatchewan but as far south as Texas. My grandparents homesteaded on the prairies  and I have an affinity for the small towns where I spent many summers. The project began in earnest in 2001, and continues unabated.

The prairie is a wonderful place to see how things connect to one another, these photographs encourage us to question physical relationships. The relationship between the diverse structures and the spaces between them. The relationship between the entire street and the land it rests on and the relationship of the people, who’s presence is often only implied.
